Grammy-winning South African singer Tyla rocked a Balmain sand sculpture gown at the 2024 Met Gala, raising the Mzansi flag once more.
The Met Gala red carpet is known to produce some of the most memorable celebrity fashion moments.
The 2024 Met Gala, which took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on Monday, was themed Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.
The hosts for the much-anticipated ball were Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth.
The event raises millions of dollars
The Met Gala is deemed one of the biggest fund-raising events and starriest parties of the year.
The event, which raises millions of dollars for the museum’s self-funding fashion wing, has become known for its bold red carpet and highly exclusive guest list handpicked by Vogue’s longtime editor Anna Wintourr and Condé Nast executives.
Although the red carpet and afterparties get the most attention of the night, the gala is, above all, a fundraiser.
A recent book, Fashion’s Big Night Out, claims that the five-figure tickets raise millions of dollars for the museum annually, with a record setting at nearly $22-million (R406-million) in 2023.
One of the best-dressed celebrities on the red carpet was Tyla, who wore a dress by British fashion illustrator and designer Hayden Williams that fit like a second skin.

Tyla received the Global Icon Award at the 18th Metro FM Music Awards held at the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga in April.
She was not present at the venue to receive the award in person.
