Mzwakhe Mbuli Jr, known by his stage name Robot-Boii, made South Africa proud when he walked away with the Best Dancer gong at the Trace Awards.
The awards, hosted by musician D’Banj and Angolan supermodel and fashion icon Maria Borges, took place at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda at the weekend.
Robert Boii, the son of seasoned poet Mzwakhe Mbuli, is famously known as a dancer, singer, drummer, comedian, producer, and social media influencer.
The multi-talented award-winning dancer has worked alongside artists such as Costa Titch, DJ Big Sky, Nadia Nakai, the late AKA, and DJ Maphorisa.
Jerusalema hitmaker shines again
Also scooping an award was Grammy winner and Jerusalema hitmaker Nomcebo Zikode, who took home the Best Global African Artist accolade.
Taking to social media, Zikode expressed her gratitude.
“Such an amazing experience and I got to hang [out] with other stars,” she wrote.
“The best part of the night was me walking away with #BestGlobalAfricanArtist, and I will forever be thankful and grateful for the love I receive everywhere I go.”
Davido took home prizes for Best Male and shared Best Collaboration with South Africa’s Musa Keys for Unavailable.
Best album gong goes to Burna Boy
Rema scored in the Global African Artist and Song of the Year categories with Calm Down, while Burna Boy’s Love Damini won the Best Album gong.
Vivian Chidid received praise for Best Female.
The Best Artist – East Africa was won by Diamond Platnumz while Rwandan local hero Bruce Melodie triumphed in the Best Rwandan Artist category.
Didi B won the gong for Ivory Coast as Best Artist Africa, and Nigeria’s 2Face took home the prize for Lifetime Achievement.
Rutshelle Guillance was named Best Artist – Caribbean, while Goulam triumphed as Best Artist – Indian Ocean, and Dystinct won Best Artist – North Africa.
Music maker and entrepreneur, Mr Eazi, took home the special ChangeMarker award for his philanthropic work.
Competing in 26 award categories were Africa and Afro-inspired artists from more than 30 countries on the continent, South America, the Caribbean, the Indian Ocean, and Europe.
