Tina Redman fed-up with Dis-Chem’s racial profiling

A disgruntled Tina Redman has lodged a formal complaint with the SA Human Rights Commission following an alleged racial-profiling incident.

Redman, an actress, took to social media on Monday to share that Dis-Chem allegedly racially profiled them (note that Redman’s profile is they/them) and their partner at Neighbourhood Square in Linksfield, Johannesburg, where they were accused of stealing fake eyelashes.

Redman said security officials frisked them, but failed to do the same with their white partner.

Dis-Chem allegedly falsely accused Redman of stealing fake eyelashes and refused to show the footage that apparently incriminated them.

Redman further said the person who claimed to have seen them stealing the eyelashes and chucking away the box refused to apologise or acknowledge a mistake.

Dis-Chem said its operational director sent an e-mail apologising to Redman last week, however, the actress said there was no apology in the e-mail.

“Clearly, they don’t care about black customers and those involved won’t face repercussions,” Redman said.

“They refuse to give a written apology. I have now lodged a complaint with the SA Human Rights Commission.”
