Tresor honoured with prestigious Res Publica award in Italy

African excellence continues to shine on the global stage as multi-award-winning musician, songwriter, and producer Tresor adds yet another accolade to his impressive list of achievements.

The acclaimed artist has been named among the 2025 laureates of the Res Publica International Awards, a global honour celebrating individuals and organisations whose work embodies civic courage, creativity, and the pursuit of global harmony.

Held annually in Italy, the Res Publica Awards recognise extraordinary contributions across four key areas: peace and solidarity, environmental harmony, ethical journalism, and the courage of art.

This year, the spotlight fell on Tresor, who was celebrated for his outstanding impact through music, earning him the ‘Courage of Art’ award.

From DRC, via SA, to the world

Born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and now based in South Africa, his journey is one of resilience and reinvention.

From his early days as a refugee to becoming one of Africa’s most respected musicians and producers, his story continues to inspire countless young Africans to dream beyond borders.

Blending elements of African heritage with modern pop and soul influences, he has carved out a global sound rooted in identity and hope.

In their official statement, the Res Publica jury praised Tresor for his “artistic and courageous talent to guide public opinion in the struggle to end war and violence in Africa,” recognizing his music’s ability to promote peace, empathy, and unity across nations.

Forever grateful

Reflecting on the recognition, Tresor expressed heartfelt gratitude: “On October 25, 2025, I was deeply honoured and humbled to receive The Courage of Art Award from Premio Res Publica in Italy.”

“This recognition is a reminder of why I create and who I create for. Through art, I’ve found a way to shift the narrative of refugees and African youth to one that tells stories of resilience, beauty, and hope. This is a lifelong purpose, and I look forward to many more great things to come.”

The awards ceremony held this past weekend in Mondovì, Italy, brought together a distinguished group of honourees, including the Carabinieri, Italy’s elite police military corps, who were recognized for their long-standing national service.
