A 40-year old man is expected to appear at the Seshego magistrate’s court on Monday on a charge of murder after he allegedly chopped his 87-year old mother to death on Saturday. This gruesome act happened at Seroba village in the Mashashane area, outside Polokwane, Limpopo.
According to police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, this incident was discovered at about 3pm on Saturday when the police were responding to the complaint of a missing person from a neighbour who was worried that the deceased had not been seen for over two days.
“The police immediately went to the home of the 87- year old woman. Upon investigation, they were met by a very disturbing scene, where they discovered the woman’s dismembered body placed inside the plastic buckets.”
“Several items that were allegedly used in the commission of the crime were also found at the scene,” said Ledwaba
Son is murder suspect
Ledwaba said the deceased’s son, who is a suspect, was arrested immediately after he could not give a satisfactory explanation of the grim act.
“The motive behind this senseless murder is currently being investigated by the police,” added Ledwaba.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the heinous incident.
She pointed out that the suspect was expected to provide protection to his mother instead of prematurely cutting her life short.
“The scourge of gender-based violence has reached a crisis point. This pandemic needs all sectors of society to join hands with the police and confront this demon that continues to terrorise communities. Enough is enough,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
Life sentence for rape
Meanwhile a 44-year old man, Molemi Makwale Tema was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Thabamoopo magistrate’s court for rape. He committed the crime on 18 and 19 May 2025 at Seleteng village, in Ga-Mphahlele outside Lebowakgomo in the Capricorn District.
The court heard that the victim, a 49 year old, was on the fateful day coming from her parents’ home at Diithabaneg going to Mashite, also in Ga-Mphahlele when she was offered a lift by an unknown vehicle which dropped her off at Seleteng village. She waited there for another transport to Mashite and it soon became late in the evening . Around 9pm, the village experienced loadshedding. It became even darker. She was approached by an unknown man, who subsequently instructed her to do as he wished, at knife-point. He took her to a tavern in the next village where he raped her.
They then moved to another house where her ordeal continued.
The next morning, the victim was released, and that’s when she reported the matter to the police. The suspect was located and arrested.
