Police at Bram Fischer International Airport in Bloemfontein have arrested a 36-year-old woman after discovering 232 stones suspected to be crack cocaine concealed inside a hairdresser doll head.
On Sunday, the South African Police Service said an Airports Company South Africa supervisor alerted members of the Visible Policing Unit, responsible for crime prevention at the airport, to suspicious material that was detected by a scanning machine at around 11.26am on Saturday.
Upon inspection, officers found the doll stuffed with foam and the suspected drugs. The cocaine, which has an estimated street value of R300 000, were counted in the presence of the suspect.
A further body search revealed R93 220 in cash in the suspect’s possession. She was immediately placed under arrest.
A case docket of possession of drugs and money laundering has been opened at Navalsig police station.
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) is investigating the case.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
