Johannesburg – Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga on Monday pleaded with parents to make arrangements for learners in boarding facilities to be collected by Friday.
This follows government’s decision to place the country on alert level 4 Covid-19 regulations in response to a debilitating third wave, with Gauteng the hotspot of the virus.
Motshekga said teaching will stop on Wednesday and that schools will reopen on 19 July.
She further urged the matric class of 2021 to continue studying and readying themselves for the year-end exams.
“To matriculants, we have what we call the WOZA Matric campaign. We urge parents that children should continue to learn during this period, using the available resources,” she said.
The matric class of 2021 have already missed out on the chance of writing their mid-year examinations after the department canned the exams in response to the surge in new covid cases.
Thousands of teachers have already been vaccinated since last week.
