Johannesburg – The Junior Chamber International (JCI) World Congress South Africa has launched a youth-centric entrepreneurship programme to curb unemployment in the country.
JCI South Africa president Silindile Mbaza said the youth today were fighting a different battle because they struggled to find employment even after graduating from tertiary institutions.
With the Bizhub programme, the JCI South Africa wants to encourage the youth to start their own businesses and to motivate them to contribute positively to eco-nomic change in their communities.
“Young people should be at the forefront of youth issues. The youth unemployment rate in this country is a cry for us to not wait on anyone to save us,” said Mbaza.
“As young people, we should be leading change in all sectors that we find ourselves in, advocating for an environment that enables small businesses to thrive.”
The Bizhub workshops offer business development training, entrepreneurship 101 webinars, inter-business networking and advertising among small, medium and micro-enterprises.
The JCI World Congress will this year host its hybrid event on November 20, expecting 500 delegates at the Sandton- based centre and 20 000 more delegates virtually from over 100 countries.
