The ANC chairperson in Free State, Mxolisi Dukwana, cast his special vote at the Riebeeckstad Library in Welkom on Monday.
Dukwana, who is also the premier in the province, joined some of the voters who were allocated an opportunity to cast their votes. He said that he was optimistic that his party would emerge victorious after the elections.
He also encouraged voters to go to the polls on Tuesday and Wednesday to cast their votes in order to exercise their rights.
Speaking to Sunday World, Dukwana said that he was on cloud nine when he managed to cast his vote, which he stated was a symbol of respect for those who died for the freedom of the people of South Africa.
Respect for those who fought for our freedom
“I am excited that I had managed to cast my vote and for me, this represent those who died fighting for freedom. We fought for this country to be free. And I am grateful that we are enjoying the fruits of that freedom through exercising our right to vote.
“This is also an emotional exercise when we look where we come from. And as one of the leaders in the province, I encourage others to do the same. [They must] and stand up to make their own mark,” said Dukwana.
He also stated that many people in the province should take this opportunity to vote. This because their votes would give them a representation they want in government.
Dukwana also said that he was optimistic that the ANC was going to emerge victorious after elections. He stated that the people of Free State know the importance of the work the ANC has done in the province.
A better life for all
“As the ANC, we are grateful that we have been pushing hard to build the lives of our people. We have been able to bring better services to them, despite difficulties. As the party, we are still going to continue with what we have been doing. This in order to bring more needed change in the province. And that will only be possible through getting an outright majority in the province. Which is what we will get.
“Our people still believe in our ANC, and we are not going to disappoint them after these elections. We are still going to bring more changes in the province,” he said.
