Despite experiencing electricity outages in the Randburg areas, voters came out in numbers on Wednesday to make their mark for the general elections at Bordeaux Primary School.
Timothy Mnqushana, 30, who resides in the Ferndale area, told Sunday World that he is frustrated that they do not have electricity in his area and a week before the elections day they had no water.
“I do not understand how that is happening because it should not happening at all. We have been in democracy for 30 years now and we have been free. But nonetheless we are hopeful that things will change. I am impressed with the voters turnout and I hope our situation will change,” Mnqushana said.
He further stated that he did not vote during the local elections. Mnqushana added that he does not have a specific reason for not voting.
Time for change
Amanda Tshabalala said she was happy with the turn-out of people who have come out to vote. They are not sitting at home and complaining, she said.
“I understand that ANC failed us last term. And although I am an ANC fan, it has failed me 1,000 times. We tried last term to show them that we can take them out but they only care about their pockets. Right now we have decided as people that there are other political parties that we can vote for,” said Tshabalala.
Tshabalala adds that even if the ruling party still rules she hopes they learn a lesson from their mistakes in the last term.
Spoilt for choice
With the ballot paper this year being lengthy, she says she loves that people are going to be spoilt for choice.
“There is a party here that says what I want to see happen. ANC will not be one of them. But I do not want to lie, I am for EFF or the MK party.”
