Dineo Koloko, 31, is the founder and director of Let’s Read Together, a non-profit organisation based in Hammarsdale, KwaZulu-Natal, which she established due to her conviction that every human being is duty-bound to make a difference in other people’s lives. Koloko credits acclaimed poet and storyteller Gcina Mhlophe as her role model. “She has been a pillar of strength for me as she sometimes calls to motivate me when I feel down,” she says. “My efforts in literacy actually come from most of the work I have been privileged to do with her organisation, the Gcinamasiko’s Arts and Heritage Trust.” The amazing work of Koloko’s foundation is anchored in three programmes. The first programme is educational, which includes early literacy up to adult education for Further Education and Training. The second one deals with social awareness that is rooted in HIV and Gender-Based Violence prevention and education. And the third focuses on food security and home-based care. This young female, who is determined to make a difference in Hammarsdale, has been recognised by Radio 2000 and 5fm.
