Tebogo Clemence Molepo, a teacher at Kwagu Primary School in Limpopo, always knew from an early age that he was destined to impart knowledge to young, impressionable minds. It’s his way of shaping society. “I have been taught by great leaders and teachers, and that made me to grow up with a dream of becoming a teacher with a passion and determination to contributing meaningfully to the society and community at large,” says Molepo. “I chose teaching to develop a proud feeling in the leaners and to motivate them to be excellent in their schoolwork, careers and to become globally initiating citizens.” At Kwagu Primary School, he teaches learners in intermediate phase as well as those in senior phase, which are those between grades 4 and 7. What makes Molepo stand out as an educator is his ability to simplify teaching and learning through integrating technology into teaching and learning. For collaboration and communication skill he uses social media and cloud-based virtual platforms such as Skype, Zoom and Microsoft Teams to interact and collaborate with educators and learners globally. Such a teaching method means that “learners acquire skills that are needed for the future such as creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration, problem-solving and digital literacy”. During the national lockdown due to the outbreak of coronavirus, Molepo, who studied at the University of Venda and began his teaching career in 2016, intensified his use of technology. He used visual platforms such as Moodle, school Facebook learning page, parents WhatsApp group and many more apps to continue giving lessons to learners. A selfless and innovative educator, he also started a coding club called Kgwadu Coding Club, to help learners at his school to be exposed to technology in the many ways of learning. “I see myself working as a curriculum implementer and a leader in the field of education, and with this I will be able to share information, knowledge, and skills to other young educators in other schools because I come from a united community which shares the same vision and goals,” he says.
