Entrepreneur
Born in the Free State, entrepreneur, consultant, and trainer Lebohang Matlabe has more than seven years of expertise in business development and consultancy. He also has over five years’ experience as a broadcaster and media practitioner through different community and university media platforms. He believes that technology can be a catalyst of development and a bridge for many in Africa. To foster a culture of reading and writing, promote literacy and create rooted social activists in schools, Matlabe started Sgela Mobile web-app. This came after obtaining his B.Tech in Marketing Management and Project Management from the Central University of Technology as well as a Higher Certificate in Entrepreneurship and Business Literacy from the University of the Free State. According to the 28-year-old, Sgela Mobile is a school-management system that ensures learners have access to online tools and study materials, linking them up with virtual tutors. The platform allows cross-communication between learners, teachers and parents who subscribe to the platform through schools. It helps schools with administrative functions such as recording attendance, marks, arranging classes and submitting assignments. Matlabe believes that education is still one of the best ways to achieve social justice, draw many out of poverty and address the socio-economic difficulties we confront. The trainer also feels that more should be done to educate the youth about technology and innovation, as young people are taking full advantage of the 4IR in various sectors. We need to intensify the efforts made by both government and private sectors to unlock several bottlenecks in the ecosystem.
