“I’m here to tell stories that matter – stories that reflect who we are.” At just 23, Molatelo Makgotho is proving that storytelling, when done right, can move mountains. From Polokwane to Johannesburg, this multimedia creative is shaking up the industry with a sharp eye, strong technical skills, and fearless creativity. A Motion Picture Medium graduate and sound engineering major from AFDA, Molatelo has worked on major productions such as SABC 2’s Behind The Rainbow and various eNCA documentaries – taking on roles from camera operator to sound mixer. But instead of waiting for opportunities, Molatelo created them. In one of South Africa’s toughest job markets, Molatelo founded Makgotho Media, a production company dedicated to authentic African storytelling. The hard work paid off in 2024 – earning the Vodacom Journalist of the Year Regional Award (Sports category) and securing second place in a high-stakes business pitch competition. These achievements weren’t just accolades; they were proof that Molatelo’s vision is resonating. Today, as a freelancer, business student, and founder, Molatelo is building a platform that empowers young creatives and amplifies grassroots voices across the continent. Molatelo is not just producing content – this creative is changing the narrative.
