More info:

Lerato Mashapa, an educator from Polokwane Extension 71, is a woman of purpose, passion, and perseverance. Known for her work both in the classroom and on social media, she is a voice of hope for young women and a champion for self-growth. Her journey into education was not linear. “Unemployment pushed me to reflect and explore new interests,” Lerato shares. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she chose to pursue a new degree that would qualify her as a professional educator. Today, teaching is not just a job for her—it’s a calling rooted in her belief that educators must carry hope, guiding every learner to realise their full potential. Beyond the classroom, Lerato founded GirlTalk, a platform dedicated to empowering young women. Started during her university years at the University of Limpopo, GirlTalk brings girls together to share, heal, grow, and express themselves. The initiative has helped many overcome mental health struggles, develop new skills, and discover their talents. “It’s a safe space for learning, encouragement, and motivation,” she says. While finding venues and resources for GirlTalk has been a consistent challenge, Lerato’s unwavering determination keeps her going. “Passion and the desire to see others fulfilled fuel me, even in tough times.” She also runs a successful social media blog focused on news, business, and entertainment updates, using her platform to inspire and inform. Her personal mantra: “You have to believe in yourself when no one else does,” reflects the confidence and courage that defines her journey. And when asked for advice, she shares, “Start now—you don’t know how many lives could change because of you.” With faith and purpose guiding her, Lerato Mashapa continues to shape lives, uplift communities, and lead with heart.
