Project Name/Description:
Founder – Green Thumb Composting
From the heart of Ga-Kgole, a rural village in South Africa, Mamoshubudi turned childhood hardship into purpose. Raised in a farming family that struggled to produce enough food, she witnessed early on the devastating impact of poverty and food insecurity. These experiences planted the seeds of a lifelong mission—to empower rural communities through sustainable agriculture. Today, as the founder of Green Thumb Composting, she is transforming the way smallholder farmers grow, thrive, and feed their families. “Green Thumb Composting was born from a simple but powerful idea: turn waste into wealth. I recognised composting as a sustainable solution to improve soil health, boost crop yields, and create economic opportunities for struggling rural communities. Driven by my belief in social entrepreneurship, I poured my energy into building a business that empowers farmers while protecting the planet,” she added. She says her journey has not been easy. From overcoming technical challenges to designing mobile composting units, she leaned on strategic partnerships and her own strength. Her proudest moment? A farmer whose yields increased by 20% using Green Thumb compost, enabling him to send his children to school. She measures success not just in profits, but in lives transformed. With every farm served, job created, and crop improved, she moves closer to her dream of a greener, more equitable South Africa. “My legacy is rooted in community, innovation, and care for the Earth. As I look to expand Green Thumb Composting across Africa, I continue to grow something far greater than compost.”
