Project Name/Description:
Founder: Tau Royal Entertainment Pty Ltd
Rosina Masetla is the founder of Tau Royal Entertainment, a film production company she launched in 2013 after struggling to break into the industry. Despite completing a two-year course in Motion Picture Production at Damelin College in Centurion (2009–2010), job opportunities in film were scarce. After going years without an income, she took the leap and started her own production company. Her breakthrough came in 2020 when she received development funding from the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF) for a documentary project. In 2023, the NFVF also funded her trip to the Durban International Film Festival, where she gained valuable industry exposure and expanded her network. Masetla was later selected as one of 10 women to complete a Remote License Certificate programme, receiving a DJI Mavic Air 2 drone and her drone license. Not long after, she secured her first corporate shoot contract with a US-based production company. She also won R50,000 through a pitching competition at a Township Entrepreneurs Alliance workshop. These milestones have enabled her to take on more freelance work and hire young, aspiring filmmakers in her community. Masetla credits her entrepreneurial spirit to her father. “He always encouraged me to use my hands and skills to create my own opportunities. He believes that if you can learn to work for yourself, you’ll never go hungry,” she says.
