More info:

Growing up in Meqheleng, Ficksburg, Tumahole Makhubela witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by his community. His passion for film was ignited when he realized the power of storytelling to preserve culture and inspire positive change. "I wanted to use film to tell our stories and empower others," he says. Makhubela says coming from humble beginnings made him deeply understand struggle, resilience, and the importance of giving back. He founded Real Tumie Films, a community-based initiative that uses film to empower local youth and adults to share their own stories. Whether mentoring young filmmakers or producing short films with limited resources, Tumie’s dedication is steadfast. "Every person deserves an opportunity to thrive," he believes, and he works tirelessly to ensure that everyone in his community has a voice. He added: “Despite challenges such as limited funding, my resourcefulness and determination have allowed me to overcome obstacles. Through collaborations with local organizations and seeking sponsorships, I continue to push my vision forward.” According to Makhubela, a standout moment for him was when a group of youth he mentored successfully produced their own short film. "Seeing their pride and growth validated everything I have worked for." Looking to the future, he says he envisions expanding Real Tumie Films, collaborating internationally, and establishing a community film centre to amplify local voices. His legacy? To empower a new generation of storytellers who will preserve and celebrate their culture for years to come.
