Gugu and Busisiwe Ngcelwane

Nominee's Province:
Western Cape
Age:
32
Project Name/Description:
In just under five years, twin sisters Busisiwe and Gugu Ngcelwane have moved to a different province, built a successful adventure tourism company together and now employ six staff members. The 32-year-olds own Twin Ventures, a company which specialises in quad biking and sandboarding experiences at the Atlantis Dunes in Cape Town. Gugu says they never let setbacks sour their determination to keep building their company. Issues included permit delays and having the local tour companies welcome them as newcomers – particularly after the pandemic decimated jobs in the tourism industry. Instead of seeing challenges, the young women remained true to who they are and their beliefs. “Both my twin and I are very bubbly, and we love people. And through consistency we eventually built trust with the local operators,” says Gugu. “I always tell people that closed doors just look closed; you should still try the door, and then you will see it is open. There is more than enough opportunity for all of us. “We can all sell the same thing, but we are all born with a unique grace. That means we can make anything a success because of our uniqueness.”
