In a world of influencers, Ntsikelelo Ngaleka values influence. The 25-year-old is a producer behind two respected talk radio shows in Cape Town and Gauteng, and he appreciates the great responsibility that the job comes with. “As a content producer, I feel a responsibility in the work that I do because we aren’t just reporting the news; we are actively shaping public discourse, giving analysis and helping people understand what is happening in their world,” he says. “This helps them make informed decisions, and, because the stakes are high, this role demands absolute, uncompromising accuracy.” Ntsikelelo recently celebrated his 25th birthday on a high when an opinion piece he penned entitled “Editing the present for the future: Who gets to decide what we remember?” was published nationally, and he also presented the same topic to media students. “We live in such interesting times where almost everyone has the ability to influence public opinion, but influence without responsibility can be dangerous. In a world crowded with information, where attention is often prioritised over what is true and fair, I believe journalism’s greatest value is its commitment to credibility and to intentionally drive the conversation forward.”
