“What can I do which is different to what everyone else is doing?” This was the question that Tsholofelo Jansen asked herself in 2022 before setting up a steel fabrication business in Kuruman. The mining town had many welders doing basic jobs like burglar bars and gates, but she saw a gap for more specialised welding in the agriculture, automotive and mining industries. The 33-year-old has never allowed a lack of experience to deter her from hard work and the willingness to upskill herself. Prior to establishing her welding company, she ran a successful grass-cutting service that set her off on her very first entrepreneurial journey. “I have lost money; I have lost resources, but I always try,” she says. “I always encourage people not to be afraid to try and fail.” Now Tsholofelo is using her magnetic business acumen to market local businesses in her city. Her initiative called #30Days#30Businesses sees her use her social media platform to spotlight local Kuruman businesses while also spreading the word about her own business, Khutsho Solutions. “I have met incredible people. I give them visibility, but at the same time they also market my business. We all benefit,” she says.
