Mmabatho-based Kabelo Vanessa Mablomo is on a mission to build a strong community by creating content with a bias towards women and young girls in her province, North West. Sista Bosso magazine, says Mablomo, was born out of love for the media and graphic design, and the desire to support women to grow and learn together. Sister Bosso is a digital magazine that introduces women to wealth by focusing on fashion, art, music, health, finance as well as business and feature articles. For Mablomo the hardest part was not starting the magazine but developing a strategy to harness editing and distribution capacity. “I have learnt so much in the process and I look forward to doing more,” she says. Her role at the magazine has affected friends and family. “Most people are excited about the future. It is beautiful to watch people grow and embrace new possibilities.” Mablomo continues: “As women, we have to create our own spaces and places that are women-led.” Her advice to women who want to start their own projects is: “do it; start now and never be afraid to ask for help”.
