Nobubele Nzima
Nominee's Province:
Eastern Cape
Project Name/Description:
Sustainable Food Production and Gender-based Violence
Eastern Cape poultry farmer, Nobulele Nzima, is determined to disrupt the male-dominated farming landscape. Nzima, 31, hails from Maydene Farm township. She founded her poultry business, Bellarosa WIP Productions a few years ago after growing tired of a 9 to 5 job. The enterprise specialises in egg production. “It is a poultry farm that produces eggs, and we work very well together because there’s mutual respect, understanding and good communication in our group, and we learn from each other every day,” she asserts. She has a BCom Honours in Business Management from Nelson Mandela University. Nzima describes herself as a woman of strong character and pure intentions. Like many women in the business world, particularly farming, she has had to break many barriers along the way. Outside farming, she is also a gender-based violence activist. She is currently a candidate trainee for WOI – a 100 Day Challenge (UN Women Initiative to fight against GBV and Femicide), OR Tambo District 2022, selected by the OR Tambo DDM Hub. Her other accolades include graduating from the Embassy of France in South Africa’s “Women Agripreneurship Programme” where she was chosen among 35 South African women by the GIBS Entrepreneurship Development Academy. She was also chosen as one of the Nestle Bar-One heroes in their “It Starts with You” campaign that targets young people who are bringing change in their communities in South Africa.
