Project Name/Description:
Energy Advisor – Danish Energy Agency
Amanda Ngwenya has cut a compelling figure as an advocate for sustainable energy and renewables abroad. Ngwenya holds a BSc Honours degree in geology from the University of Witwatersrand as well as a Master’s from the Technical University of Denmark. This propelled her into Denmark’s energy sector, where she’s making waves at the Danish Energy Agency.
Ngwenya’s role as an energy engineer encompasses transition scenario development, energy systems modelling and renewable energy integration. Her impact-driven approach has made her a key player in Denmark’s energy landscape. However, her heart remains firmly tied to her homeland.
Through active conference involvement, she addresses South Africa’s energy crisis and collaborates with local experts for sustainable solutions. Ngwenya drives collaborative partnerships between the governments of Denmark and South Africa, as well as key energy stakeholders such as Eskom and the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE). Furthermore, she interacts with role players such as manufacturers in countries like Indonesia, among others, conducting modelling workshops and analysing the role of new technologies.
With two daughters, she defies convention by expertly balancing her career and family and her relocation to Denmark has not hindered this determination.
Against Danish winters, Ngwenya’s resilience shines – a metaphor for her unwavering dedication to clean energy. She pursues her passion with profession and unites global efforts for a cleaner future.
