Assignment News Editor – SABC
Bobo Lukhele, SABC’s assignment news editor and founder of BookHive, is on a mission to cultivate a passion for reading. Lukhele’s media career began with a communication degree from the University of North West. Her career path took her through various media outlets, including the African Eye News Service. She has contributed to publications such as City Press, Sunday World and Drum Magazine.
However, her most significant milestone came in 2004 when she joined the SABC as a news writer and Siswati news presenter. Over the years, she steadily climbed the ranks, assuming the role of assignment news editor, a position she holds with pride at the SABC Nelspruit regional office.
In 2011, Lukhele founded BookHive, a non-profit organisation that focuses on instilling reading habits by engaging learners and donating books. Collaborations with the likes of the Rotary Club and the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, magnified the BookHive’s influence.
Lukhele’s accomplishments include establishing two school libraries in Kanyamazane, at Masihambisane and Thandulwazi primary schools. Her efforts garnered recognition, including the SABC Inspirational Woman of Worth Award and the Sunrise Women Award for Humanitarianism in 2018.
“I want every child to own a book, every home to have a bookshelf, and every school to have a library. We can do it one step at a time,” Lukhele emphasises.
