Dr Vathiswa Papu-Zamxaka is a research and innovation leader serving as the deputy vice-chancellor for research, innovation and engagement at the Tshwane University of Technology.  

Dr Papu-Zamxaka holds a PhD degree in Public Health from London South Bank University and a Master of Science degree in Public Health from the University of Umeå in Sweden. She worked at the Medical Research Council as a senior scientist and project director. She later joined the National Research Foundation as a director for applied research and innovation grants. She subsequently took the position of director for reviews and evaluation. 

She later moved to Synexus Clinical Research, a multinational research company, as the country director, a role that entailed supervising South Africa, Uganda and Tanzania. Again, she sat on the National Research Foundation’s board of directors.  

Dr Papu-Zamxaka serves on the board of Sci-Bono Discovery Centre. She created and hosted a television show profiling some of South Africa’s scientists on DStv Channel 265.
