Lethabo Maebana holds a BSc Honours degree in Limnology from the University of the Free State, and is registered for a master’s in environmental management with a specialisation in ecological water requirements with the North West University. Maebana has over seven years of experience in coordinating, managing and conducting a range of environmental impact assessments, licences, and compliance audits for numerous projects.
“My passion for environmental science is driven by the desire to make a difference in the world by fostering innovative thinking and solutions to issues relating to human-environmental interactions,” she says.
Maebana is proud to scooping the Free State Department of Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs DESTEA MEC Award for Best Environmental Assessment Practitioner in 2019. She is professionally registered as a natural scientist and a registered environmental assessment practitioner with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions and Environmental Assessment Practitioners Association of South Africa, respectively.
She has also had the privilege of being involved in some critical public development projects in the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) region.
“As a female, when you do get a seat at the decision-making table, there is an inherent pressure to work twice as much to prove that you deserve to be there, and I have not been immune to this tension,” she states.
