More info:

Mandy Ngavu is more than a broadcaster, she’s a trailblazer who used her passion for broadcasting to run a fast-growing community radio station, Gugs FM. Ngavu’s fascination with news and current affairs led her to broadcasting. She says she is always thrilled by the ever-changing nature of the industry. Since then, she has been living to tell stories that resonate with young people.

Ngavu’s leadership and vision have shaped Gugs FM into a platform that entertains, educates and drives positive change. It’s not surprising, therefore, that the station was a finalist at the 2022 radio awards. Her 2023 nomination for Africa Founder of the Year Award is another achievement.

In a male-dominated industry, Mandy stands tall, breaking barriers and inspiring others. Challenges abound, from gruelling hours to unrelenting scrutiny, but she faces them head-on, emerging stronger each time.

“This can be tough on your personal life and your social life,” she acknowledges. “You will always have people who disagree with you and who will criticise your work.”

Ngavu’s mission is clear: inform and educate the public about critical issues. Broadcasting isn’t just a job for her; it’s a platform to amplify voices, raise awareness, and spark vital conversations. “There are many great things about working in broadcasting, but one of the best things is the opportunity to inform and educate the public on important issues.”
