Nokwethaba Mchunu is the visionary founder of Ohsixty6, a plus-size fashion brand. With a focus on quality and a keen eye for fashion gaps, Mchunu launched Ohsixty6 to become an advocate for body positivity, using her passion for fashion to boost the confidence of women of all shapes and sizes. Her designs are more than just clothing, according to her, they are symbols of empowerment.
From showcasing her garments in exclusive boutiques as a student to gracing prestigious events such as the Durban Fashion Fair and Africa Fashion Exchange, her influence has grown in leaps and bounds.
She says her brand has been featured on billboards, newspapers as well as television, sharing her empowering story. While the fashion industry can be tough, Mchunu has found a supportive community. “They’re always willing to help and teach new things. I’d be lying if I said I’ve ever had a hard time finding my feet because they’re very helpful,” she says.
Ohsixty6’s creativity can be seen through its three distinct fashion lines that are catering to various styles.
“As fashion revolves daily, one must keep up but also produce garments that are worth the buyers’ every penny. Ohsixty6 has three different main fashion lines. One that caters to casual fashion, another for smart sophisticated wear and its elegant line. I try not to create fast fashion garments so clients can be able to wear them for the longest time,” explains Mchunu.
