Director – Doek on Fleek
Nomthandazo Thandi Mavata, the driving force behind Doek on Fleek (DoF), is reshaping the landscape for women in the media and event management business. At 41, Mavata’s journey from the Eastern Cape to Johannesburg has led her to create a powerful platform that transcends industry boundaries.
According to her, DoF isn’t just an event and management firm – it’s a movement. Her vision centres on nomadic-outdoor events, offering a space for diverse women to network and thrive.
Armed with an accounting background and a passion for entrepreneurship, Mavata’s mission is to rewrite societal narratives about women’s potential.
Under her leadership, Doek on Fleek has helped over 100 000 women in launching start-ups, often with minimal capital. Her accomplishments include launching a herbal store in Randburg and securing land in Hartebees for future expansion.
Corporate partnerships, sponsors, and collaborations with brands ranging from shoes to beverages outline DoF’s far-reaching impact.
Thandi’s joy stems from impacting multiple lives simultaneously.
“I enjoy that I get to touch more than one life at once as a host, and event director. It feels good to see all these women congregating in one place, having a good time while learning,” she says.
She further adds the most fulfilling part about running this line of business is the amount of opportunities it creates not only internally for her team, but for women who come out as owners and game changers.
