Portia Ncwane is a well-known actress who has appeared in popular shows like Uzalo, Umkhokha, and Imbewu, as well as in several Netflix productions. She is currently working on producing her own films. In addition, she is the founding CEO of Sbani Media Productions, a company dedicated to telling African and women’s stories through documentaries and films.
Ncwane is passionate about youth and community empowerment, and she leverages this passion to preserve South African culture through traditional folklore. She uses the medium of visual art and performance to tell a story and make an impact in various communities.
She is an alumna of the Mandela Washington Fellowship, a leadership programme where she represented South Africa in Delaware and Washington DC.
“Access to resources and funding limits our growth and recognition but by building strong networks and collaborating with others, we can pool resources and increase visibility,” Ncwane said.
Besides representing South Africa as a global brand ambassador in countries like Italy, Spain, and the US, she is also a multi-award winner. Her accolades include the She Awards Africa 2023, the Female Founders Initiative Middle East, and the Africa 50 Recipient 2024, among others.
