Kanego Thamane

Nominee's Province:
Limpopo

Project Name/Description:
Founder, Nolengka Farm

More info:

Kanego has broken barriers in a traditionally male-dominated agricultural sector. Drawing on knowledge passed down from her grandmother, she recognized the potential of indigenous plants like the Mansonia augustifolia and Aloe ferox trees, using them for medicinal agro-processing. Her products, resilient through both rainy and dry seasons, are designed to treat illnesses and promote wellness through natural remedies. Kanego’s vision extends beyond farming. She aims for full ownership of her farm while providing opportunities for youth employment and skills development. Leveraging initiatives such as the government’s BBBEE economic strategy via AGRI-SETA, her farm offers learnerships and training, creating meaningful work for disadvantaged communities. The company also collaborates with other agricultural enterprises through outsourcing, sub-contracting, and joint ventures. Committed to sustainability, Nolengka Farm aligns with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. It prioritizes holistic health, responsible consumption, and environmental stewardship through organic, eco-friendly practices. By preserving biodiversity and supporting ecosystem conservation, the farm exemplifies the integration of economic growth, social development, and environmental responsibility, inspiring women and communities to pursue sustainable agriculture.
