Big cheers to JC Le Roux and bubbly Christall K for a sparkling experience

Darlings, clutch your flutes and let Shwashwi spill the sparkling tea from the Johannesburg Cap Classique, Champagne & Bubbles Festival, held May 24-25, at the posh Inanda Polo Club in Sandton. With JC Le Roux, South Africa’s sparkling wine trailblazer, as the lead sponsor, this weekend was a fizzy fusion of elegance, energy, and just a splash of delicious drama. Pop the cork, it’s gossip time!

JC Le Roux turned their stand into a floral-chic dreamscape, flaunting their star Cap Classique Scintilla with a vibe that screamed “every sip’s a celebration”. Siphokazi Solani, Heineken Beverages’ BTL brand & events executive, nailed it: “JC Le Roux’s immersive showcase turned every moment into a memory and a celebration.” Guests grabbed sentiment-driven ribbons at the entrance –whether toasting a win, a grin, or just showing face – kicking off a festive vibe rooted in Stellenbosch’s finest bubbles.

The JC Le Roux setup was pure class. Expert pourers led tastings, dropping gems about the Cap Classique method while teaching the art of the pour – tilt that glass, love, to keep those bubbles lively! The “Sparkle Mirror” installation was a selfie hotspot, capturing slow-motion glam with lights and tunes. The floral-themed photo lounge was perfect for sipping, snapping and savouring, while pop-up dancers, as effervescent as Scintilla, twirled daily from 1pm to 3pm, embodying the brand’s joyful spirit. The Sophisticated Floral Chic theme? JC Le Roux owned it with chic glassware and décor that felt polished yet personal.

Now, let’s talk Christall Kay, the festival’s undisputed queen. This reality TV star was gleefully tipsy on JC Le Roux’s finest, her laughter bubbling louder than her flute of Scintilla. Rocking – yep, you guessed it – a leopard print dress for the millionth time. That wildcat print was giving “I’ve worn this before, and I’ll wear it again” energy, but the crowd lapped it up, showering her with adoration. Shwashwi overheard her toasting to “new vibes” (and maybe a shady ex or two), and her infectious charm had everyone enchanted. Christall, you leopard-loving legend, you owned that fest!

But oh, Lawrence Maleka, our resident buzz kill. At a public event bursting with fun, this TV host was tighter than a champagne cork. Gripping his glass like it was a script for a sombre monologue, he looked like he’d rather be anywhere else. Lawrence, honey, this is a bubbles fest, not a Big Brother showdown! While the crowd clinked flutes and vibed, you were radiating “I’m too serious for this” vibes. Shwashwi’s advice: chug some Scintilla, swap the stiff suit for some sparkle, and let loose. Nobody’s here for a flat fizz at a party!

The festival was a fizzy triumph, with JC Le Roux curating pure magic. From personalised flutes to dreamy tastings, it was a love letter to life’s sparkling moments.

Cheers, Joburg!
