Shwa headed out to the Protea Hotel at Wanderers Club on Tuesday for the media launch of the Crown Gospel Music Awards.
If you haven’t heard by now that the awards have now been moved to Gauteng, specifically Soweto, then I don’t know in what world you live in.
As soon as Shwa stepped out of the parking lot, she bumped into gospel singer Omega Khunou, who rocked up in a navy-blue suit, and singer Puleng March – and their partners who were all dressed to the nines as if it were the actual awards ceremony.
It was then that Shwa realised she might have not received the memo, finding herself under-dressed.
Shwa cannot stress enough to event organisers to be more organised with their red carpet because, what was that?
There was literally nobody to welcome guests and the media at the door, let alone welcome drinks. Sigh!
Shwa found herself standing as if she was lost at the foyer, and later was told to get a starter.
It was only after a while that the media noticed that a red carpet existed. Gospel singer Dumi Mkokstad and Shwa probably got the same memo regarding the dress code, because Mkokstad was just there in his casual clothes, not suited up.
Norma Mngoma, the queen of suits, was also present at the event – not sure what the correlation with her and the awards is, but most probably she was supporting her home girl.
Founder of the awards, Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule, rocked up in a purple evening gown, while legendary singer Dr Rebecca Malope looked sizzling in a black gown. For a second when Shwa looked around the event it felt like it was one of those church high teas that Moi used to attend with her mom before she became a rebel.
It was refreshing to see song of the year winner, Betusile Mcinga. He looked joyful like the winner he is. We hope you bless us with another hit this year.
MacDonald Ndou, care to share with Shwa what is it exactly that you are doing after being booted from Muvhango?
Also, what about that afro you are growing?
It was also good seeing Icebolethu owner Nomfundo Mcoyi, who seems to be mingling a bit more this side of Joburg. Shwa was hoping that you would invite her to the women’s event you had the other day, but again, it’s no big deal.
Metro FM’s Thami Ngubeni, who was the MC of the day, rocked a gold Rubicon dress, but baby girl saw the need to talk too much even though we were behind schedule.
Gauteng arts and culture MEC Morakane Mosupyoe seemed excited as she gave her speech. She sang praises of Mbokazi and her husband’s relationship. Can somebody ask Siphelele Sixaso from the SABC why he likes people clapping hands for him every two seconds?
Dr Tumi, what is happening to you, my dear brother in Christ? You look like you are going through something, but Shwa hopes you overcome it.
Shwa also spotted Lindelani Mkhize, Sipho Makhabane, Solly Mahlangu, Lethabo Lejoy and Rorisang Thandekiso.
