Goodbye to a legendary talent

Soapies can be so dramatic, iyoh. The way they killed off Cedwyn Joel aka Uncle AB on the Kyknet soapie Suidooster on Wednesday. It was meant to be a heart-breaking moment – but gosh how unrealistic. Not his acting though. Shwa would like to take a moment to honour the legendary actor, who now at 70 has announced his retirement from acting.

So, for those who thought he would magically be reincarnated, he is never coming back. But let it be known that he’s the reason Shwa became hooked on the soapie, set in Cape Town, when his character decided to take on a second wife, Farah. Wow! This love triangle had the entire country on edge. Farah, played by Lee-Ann van Rooi, was even attacked in public for this role. Hectic!

Joel is a man who many of South Africans watched as they were growing up. He appeared as a lead actor on many of Mzansi’s favourites from the original Generations back in the 2000s, where he played bar man Sonny Jacobs. A role he played from 1993 until 2004. For an old timer, he has a vrr phaa energy in him – his acting was always authentic and believable. Shwa will miss your excellence… do enjoy the time with the fam.
