Maskandi folks have gone too far

The maskandi trend and lifestyle that is sweeping through the country sometimes has its ambassadors going too far for recognition.

With everyone chasing to trend in the age of social media, some of the things done become too ridiculous even for social media.

This was the case at the Ingoma kaZwelonke festival in Durban last week. The event, defined with music without instruments, fashion and dance, is an annual occasion where groups compete with each other with everything.

The festival includes coming up with a controversial entrance theme by each group. This time, one group went to far when they showed up carrying a coffin. Such madness we last saw with the hoax resurrection by controversial Pastor Alph Lukau some six years ago.

Given the backlash that bogus pastor faced then, one could have never imagined anyone trying a similar stunt again.

But with these Maskandi folks anything is possible. These are the same people who once gathered more than 100k of them outside the home of their fallen star Khulekani “Mgqumeni” Mseleku after a madman showed up, claiming to be the late iSMS hitmaker.

So crazy was this coffin move that even Maskandi’s craziest fellow, the bumbling fool Ngizwe Mchunu, who calls himself President, slammed this one.
