Matric vs merit: DA’s hypocrisy exposed

The DA loves to preach “merit” as the golden ticket to employment. Yet their federal leader, John Steenhuisen, holds only a matric certificate. So, when the DA parrots “meritocracy”, are they talking qualifications, connections, or the quiet comfort of historical privilege?

Shwa agrees that merit matters. But reducing it to paper credentials is a smokescreen. Steenhuisen’s rise – from matric to party leadership – ironically highlights what the DA really values: political savvy, networks, and yes, the unspoken advantages of whiteness in a system still rigged by apartheid’s ghosts.

This isn’t about shaming people; it’s about exposing hypocrisy. If the DA says jobs should hinge on degrees, why do their top brass lack one? Merit isn’t just ticking boxes. It’s a lived experience – understanding poverty, racism, or gender barriers.  The DA’s narrow definition sidelines these realities, dismissing transformation as “quota politics”.

South Africa’s tired of the noise.
