Security at the same Safa Congress and the NEC meeting was a little overzealous and heavy-handed. It is still puzzling as to how and why such manpower is needed for a meeting of old geezers, pensioners and sleepists (to borrow from Mbuyiseni Ndlozi).
The ready-for-combat security officers had metal detectors and a bunch of man-mountains guarding the door and protecting the members. But some of the ageing Safa members were already on their third midday snooze when the overeager security dealt decisively with Ria Ledwaba’s protesters who were picketing outside.
The muscular chaps cleaned the house and made light work of yanking the protesters out of the venue.
