Shed a tear for the aunties selling vetkoeke

Goodbye illegal trading because in a move that is meant to reveal the underworld trade, the City of Tshwane announced a thrilling new partnership with none other than the South African Revenue Services (Sars).

In what can only be described as a high-stakes summit of clipboard-wielding titans, city officials and Sars operatives came together to tackle the city’s most diabolical threat, the illicit trade.

No, not underground rhino horn smuggling rings or international cybercrime syndicates, we’re talking unlicensed fruit vendors and rogue street barbers.

Since taking office, officials have bravely cracked down on the front lines, removing bootleg socks from taxi ranks, and slapping stern looks at aunties selling vetkoeke without receipts. But with Sars now involved, things are going to a whole new level. These traders thought fines were bad? Wait until they see their tax audit.
