Limpopo to use its mild winter to lure tourists

Limpopo is positioning itself to take advantage of its warm weather to attract at least one million tourists this winter.

Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) Chief Executive Officer, Moses Ngobeni, made this bold statement during the launch of the province’s Winter Campaign at the Mopani Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park, Limpopo.

“As you might know, our province is regarded as the province of Two Summers due to its mild winter temperatures and diverse tourism offerings. It is for this reason that we aim to take the tolerable mild winter conditions to reposition ourselves, as the province, to lure tourists who want to escape colder climates in their provinces across the country and internationally to come and enjoy our province,”   explained Ngobeni.

As the agency, added Ngobeni: “Our extended mandate of Destination Trade and Investment Promotion, as pronounced by Limpopo EXCO in 2022, has been showcased during the campaign. We aim to increase brand equity and awareness, establish strategic business partnerships, and promote Limpopo as a viable tourist destination both locally and internationally.”

Limpopo is known for its warm temperatures, with average daily highs of 26° C.
Limpopo MEC of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism (LEDET), Tshitereke Matibe, said apart from the mild temperatures, Limpopo prides itself on a unique wildlife and cultural activities such as game drives and traditional dances.

He applauded the LTA for its excellent work in placing Limpopo on the map. “The agency has supported regional events and activations to promote the Limpopo tourism industry, enhancing relationships with key stakeholders, including media leaders and tourism industry players. They have achieved the aim of making the province a top-of-mind destination for tourists and holidaymakers, showcasing its diverse attractions, warm winters, and safe environment,” he said.

LTA head of communications Mike Tauetsoala said Limpopo claimed the third most visited province spot behind Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal, with over nine million visitors this past Easter holidays. “We are aiming to push those figures further in our quest to claim top spot… the number one most visited province. Campaigns such as this one could help us achieve just that,” said Tauetsoala.
