Popular SABC2 talk-show programme Motswako has reached the end of the road, according to head of channel Gerhard Pretorius, who noted that the show’s season finale will be on August 25.
Motswako offered the viewers a platform to freely express their views on social, apolitical and economic challenges facing the country.
“At its inception, Motswako created a much-needed influential and inspirational space to actively engage a wide spectrum of issues that directly concerned South African women, such as HIV/Aids, gender equality, rape, and gender-based violence,” said Pretorius.
“Combined with light-hearted infotainment on art, beauty and fashion, the show captured a contemporary celebration of women from all corners of our nation. The SABC2 is immensely proud of the road that Motswako has paved over 21 seasons.”
Pretorius gave credit to the show’s executive producer, Carol Bouwer, for giving women the opportunity to freely highlight their daily struggles.
Bouwer said: “After 21 seasons of being big sister and sometimes baby sister to women in our nation, Motswako bids South Africa farewell.
“Delivering empowering conversations that have consistently embraced the gains of women, shone the light on their challenges and opportunities, this is a humble goodbye to a dear friend. See you all again when the sun rises again.”
