Jaguar tests bold new electric GT as brand reinvents itself

British luxury carmaker Jaguar is accelerating its transition into an all-electric future, with engineers putting the brand’s new four-door GT through rigorous testing ahead of its official reveal later this year.

The development marks a watershed moment in Jaguar’s reinvention strategy, which gained global attention in November 2024 when the brand unveiled its daring “Copy Nothing” identity campaign.

The campaign signalled a bold departure from convention, blending innovation, artistry and heritage as Jaguar positions itself as a fully electric luxury marque.

Now, that ambition is taking shape in the form of a new four-door grand tourer (GT), which the company says will redefine what an electric Jaguar should feel like on the road.

The model is expected to go head-to-head with premium electric performance models such as the Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, Volvo ES90, Mercedes-Benz EQE Sedan and BMW i5, while also edging into a broader luxury EV space increasingly shaped by ultra-premium offerings like the Rolls-Royce Spectre.

Rediscovering essence of Jaguar

At the heart of the project is a deliberate look back at the brand’s heritage. Engineers revisited some of Jaguar’s most iconic models, including the Jaguar E-Type, Jaguar XJS and Jaguar XJ Series I, to better understand the DNA that has defined the marque for decades.

According to Jaguar, this exercise was not about nostalgia but about rediscovering the essence of what makes a true Jaguar: a balance between performance and refinement.

Matt Becker, vehicle engineering director at Jaguar Land Rover, said the team focused on recreating the “dual character” that has long defined the brand.

“At its best, Jaguar has always delivered performance and comfort in perfect harmony,” Becker said.

That philosophy underpins the new GT, which promises both engaging driving dynamics and long-distance comfort—a hallmark of traditional grand tourers.

Long bonnet and low roofline

The upcoming model is expected to feature a striking design, with a long bonnet and low roofline that references Jaguar’s past while challenging typical electric vehicle styling.

Under the skin, the numbers are equally ambitious. The new GT is powered by a tri-motor electric setup producing more than 735kW of power and over 1 300Nm of torque.

Advanced torque vectoring and ultra-fast software response, measured in milliseconds, aim to deliver precise handling and immediate power delivery.

Engineers have also focused heavily on ride quality, with dynamic air suspension and advanced damping systems designed to maintain composure across varying driving conditions.

Jaguar says the vehicle has undergone extensive global testing, both in real-world environments and virtual simulations, as it fine-tunes what it describes as a “distinct driving character” for its next generation of electric vehicles.

The four-door GT is set to be officially unveiled in September and will serve as the foundation for all future Jaguar models—signaling not just a new car but a complete reset of the brand’s identity in the electric era.
