SABC2 soapie 7de Laan has confirmed that an actor who was hospitalised after attempting to commit suicide is not part of the show’s current cast.
The unidentified 50-year-old was rushed to the hospital in Thembisa after he overdosed on medication. This after shooting his lover to death.
The thespian, who is said to be popular in Afrikaans soapies, allegedly shot his partner, 29, in Norkem Park, Kempton Park on Thursday.
7de Laan said in a statement on Friday that it is saddened and disturbed by the reports regarding the tragic incident involving the thespian.
It further said production has made efforts to establish who the actor might be, but according to the law, the suspect’s identity may not be revealed until he is charged.
“As it stands, we have no knowledge of the identity of the individual involved and would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family and friends,” it said in a statement.
“It is believed the suspect was an actor who featured in a number of South African soap operas but it is still unclear as to which.”
