ANC in Sedibeng sticks to its guns

The ANC in Sedibeng says ongoing leadership changes and redeployments across municipalities are part of a wider governance overhaul aimed at stabilising administration and improving service delivery across the region, not purging.

The party’s regional leadership said the process, which began in December last year, is driven by resolutions of the ANC’s 16th regional conference and focuses on strengthening governance in all ANC-led municipalities ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

Regional spokesperson Mphikeleli Msibi said the regional working committee (RWC) had been tasked with implementing the conference resolutions and overseeing organisational interventions in municipalities experiencing governance and service
delivery challenges.

“The RWC of the ANC has been seized with the responsibility of implementing the 16th regional conference resolutions, among others, to strengthen governance across all ANC-led municipalities in Sedibeng,” Msibi said in a response to Sunday World.

He said the process involves consultations with the ANC Gauteng provincial task team (PTT), alliance partners, coalition partners and party structures across the region.

According to the ANC, regional office bearers have already submitted a detailed, evidence-based report to provincial leadership outlining the state of governance across Sedibeng.

The report details shortcomings in service delivery across the region, with particular focus on Emfuleni, described by the ANC as the region’s anchor municipality.

“The regional office bearers have presented a detailed report to the Gauteng ANC PTT officials on the state of governance in the Sedibeng region. This report details various shortcomings in service delivery across the region, particularly in Emfuleni,” Msibi said.

Following engagement with provincial leadership, the regional executive committee began implementing redeployment decisions affecting certain ANC deployees in government.

Msibi confirmed that regional office bearers held one-on-one meetings with affected deployees on Tuesday, February 10, to communicate the decisions and provide an opportunity for them to respond.

He stressed that the changes were part of structured organisational processes guided by party policies and conference resolutions.

The party has also begun establishing election structures across the region as part of preparations for the 2026 local government elections. A detailed programme of action is expected to be rolled out in the coming weeks.

“Key among our programme of action are issues relating to service delivery priorities. We have convened all our branches to communicate these important decisions as part of unifying the region through maximum discipline towards attaining victory during the 2026 local government elections,” Msibi said.

“The regional office bearers, as mandated by the regional executive committee, are in constant communication with the ANC Gauteng PTT officials, alliance partners and coalition partners on implementing further changes of reconfiguring and strengthening governance in our municipalities,” he said.
