Caster Semenya ruling reaffirms supremacy of constitution – ANC

The ANC has extended its congratulations to Caster Semenya on her court victory against world athletics organisation.

This after the European Court of Human Rights on Tuesday ruled in favour of the esteemed athlete, stating that her rights had been infringed.

Semenya approached the court in February 2021 to contest the regulations that require women to reduce their high levels of testosterone.

In a statement on Wednesday, the ANC said the judgment upholds the party’s stance on discrimination and the protection of human rights.

It expressed gratification that the judgment would pave a way for Semenya to get back on the track and contest without being discriminated.

“This judgment vindicates the ANC’s stance on discrimination and protection of rights, respect and human dignity, equality, non-sexism and non-homophobia,” said the ANC.

“The ruling reaffirms the supremacy of our constitution, the Bill of Rights and the universal declaration of human rights.

“The implications of this groundbreaking judgment herald a return of Caster Semenya to the track without any discrimination and violation of human rights.

“The ANC wishes Caster Semenya well in her future endeavours and performances without discriminatory hindrances.”
