A 48-year-old police officer is expected to make his first appearance in the Ixopo magistrate’s court on Monday for alleged murder.
This after his heavily pregnant girlfriend Busisiwe Ngubo was found dead a stone’s throw away from her home.
Ngubo, from Hlanzeni location in Ixopo in KwaZulu-Natal, was reportedly pregnant with triplets when she was attacked and left dead by the roadside.
According to police, Ngubo was strangled and dumped next to the road.
Independent police investigative directorate (Ipid) spokesperson Robbie Raburabu confirmed that the cop, who works as a sergeant in Ixopo police station, was arrested by a team of Ipid investigators on Friday.
“He was arrested on suspicion of murder of his pregnant girlfriend. The deceased was last seen leaving with the suspect on August 13 2023 and was later found dead approximately 1.4km from her home,” said Raburabu.
“The suspect may further face charges of dealing in dagga after a stash of dagga and other exhibits were found at his home after his arrest.”
Women for Change, a non-profit organisation that educates, advocates, and campaigns against gender-based violence and femicide and human rights, is calling for justice for Ngubo.
“Where’s the outrage during Women’s Month when four innocent lives are taken? Our hearts are absolutely broken.
“Four lives were taken so brutal,” said Women for Change, pointing to the murder of Ngubo and her three unborn babies.
