“Racist” Corrie Pretorius tasted his freedom for the first time in over two months when the Groblersdal magistrate’s court granted him R20 000 bail.
Pretorius appeared briefly in court on Tuesday to answer to charges of assault and pointing of a firearm. The matter was postponed to September 9 to afford him the time to arrange new legal representation. He was remanded back in police custody.
On Wednesday, the court decided to release him on bail after his application was turned down in June for fear that his personal safety might be compromised.
In court documents seen by Sunday World, Pretorius must report to the Marble Hall police station every fortnight and he has been ordered to hand over his passport to the investigating officer.
His arrest followed a brutal attack on a minor in June whom he also threatened with a firearm. The video of the assault went viral shortly after the “racially motivated” incident in Limpopo.
In the video, Pretorius can be seen assaulting, swearing and pointing a firearm at the boy allegedly over who should use a seasoning spice first at a local food shop.
