Grammy award winning Isicathamiya group Ladysmith Black Mambazo have been forced to come back home after a coronavirus scare from the United States of America.
Sunday World has learnt that the group flew back into the country on Thursday night and were immediately screened by airport health officials.
Band manager Xolani Majozi said the group had to suspend their international tour indefinitely due to the rapid spread of the COVID-19.
“All members of the band arrived on Thursday and we were all screened at the airport. Luckily none of us tested positive for the virus. Everyone is home now,” said Majozi.
“It is quite a big blow for the group but we had to make our way back home,” said Majozi.
Majozi added that nine shows had been cancelled in the US and one show in Durban.
“The cancellation of most shows means that artists won’t be paid. It is really affecting our business. We wait for the government to indicate when the right time is to resume our shows,” said Majozi.
The group recently buried its founder Joseph Shabalala, 78 who died at a hospital in the capital, Pretoria.
