The number of people who died when a truck and a minibus collided at Hanover, Northern Cape on Friday has increased to nine.
This after five people who were admitted to the hospital succumbed to their injuries at the weekend.
It has been reported that the deceased, all Lesotho nationals, were travelling in a taxi from Cape Town to Sterkspruit Telle Bridge border gate when the accident happened.
The taxi was ferrying 14 passengers.
Timothy Sam, spokesperson for police in Northern Cape, said a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
“The police in Hanover can confirm that the death toll in the N1 national road crash has risen to nine by Sunday, 12 March 2023,” said Sam.
Meanwhile, one person was killed when a minibus hit a group of pedestrians standing next to the road in Kuruman on Sunday evening.
The deceased was declared dead by the paramedics who had rushed to the scene.
Separately, a motorist driving along the R31 Road between Kuruman and Moffat Mission reported another accident involving two vehicles. No fatalities were reported.
