Defiant King Monada fails to pay R2,000 a month on a R15k debt

Popular khelobedu music hit maker King Monada has allegedly defied a court order to pay back a R15,000 deposit he received for a feature that never happened.

The money was paid to King Monada, real name Khutso Steven Kgatle, by upcoming musician DJ Kalewa in 2022. He paid him for a music feature which never materialised.

Kalewa dragged the popular muso to the small claims court, where he was awarded the refund. However, he was only paid R2,000 in November last year. He did so with the promise that the money will be paid every month until it was settled.

Never answer calls and has allegedly blocked victim on social media

Speaking to Sunday World on Saturday, DJ Kalewa, real name Kgomotso Bopape, said the Aye kuwa hitmaker has since disappeared with his money. He also does now answer his calls and has blocked him on social media platforms.

“He only paid me R2,000 because he said that is all he could afford. King Monada made one payment in November and that was it. He never paid me anything else after that and then he went on to block me from all communication platforms,” DJ Kalewa said.
Kalewa also took to his Facebook page to expose the singer. He did this after realising that he might not get his money back despite being armed with a court order.

“I paid King Monada R15k for a feature. He lied to me and said he will record it, since we worked on a beat. But [he] postponed because he was shooting Aye kuwa. He told … me to come on a certain date, which he knew that he won’t be around.

Small claims court ruled for a refund

“I ended up going to Tzaneen small claims court. He only paid me R2,000 in November 2023 because that is what he agreed on (paying). But he never paid again,” Bopape said.

Bopape said added that he has resorted to getting a different sim card every time he wants to remind the muso to pay him back. But he ends up being blocked on any number he uses.
When contacted for comment, an irate King Monada said: “What  do you want? Please don’t disrespect me okay?” before hanging up.
